For a background, I am thinking a pale mauvy gray, and maybe in a blotchy pattern type effect instead of plain. With the warm colors of the horses, a cool color should help set them off better. I'll keep it pale, not too dark.
I just think a bit more rendering on the neck will finish him off.
Well, moment of truth. I have laid down the first layer. It is only pale and will remain so but it needs more layers yet. I'll be blending the necks into it so they don't look decapitated.
I think the blue does make them stand out more, especially Ben who is more orange.
Don't worry about the horrible patchy affect either. I'll smoothen it out.
Well, I have put another layer of acrylic down for the background. Starting to look smoother and more opaque. Also, I have started the blending of the necks. They don't look quite so decapitated now.
Well, it is done folks. Just ironed out the last of the tide marks in that blue. It isn't perfectly smooth but I think I prefer a bit of texture in it even if it is only subtle.
