Well, first picture of Ben in progress. Not had chance to do that much and the eye area always takes forever. Not done yet but getting there.

Well I've worked further down Ben's face and also started to add the first touches to his muzzle area. This afternoon, I was putting in the acrylic and suddenly realized I'd still got quite a bit on the palette and didn't have much time before getting ready for work so I slapped it on the neck as base color. I know it looks a mess at the moment but I didn't want to waste the acrylic. I'll work on it once his head is done.

The horses just happen to be a slightly different color. to each other. Sam is more liver chestnut with the paler flaxen mane and tail. Ben is more of the bright orange chestnut color.

I haven't had to use loads of colors for this. Browns, blacks, gray for the muzzles, white yellow ochre, red, orange and that's it really. I can mix those colors to get other colors such as the skin color. on their muzzles, I use yellow ochre, lot of white and a touch of red. Put a little brown into that in the darker parts.
