The freckles still need some more work doing on them to create some more depth, but this is how the painting looks at the moment.

Part of the progress on the horse's head. I build up the structure by blocking in the shadows, applying a wash or 2 if I feel the need, which is more often than not.

I tend to work rather randomly, get bored of one bit and move onto another. I got bored of his face and worked some more on his body. Adding more of those spots. Using the same method -spotting then applying a wash.

I also started blocking in his hooves.

I noticed I wasn't happy with the tail it looked too much like a block of color and there was no wispiness to it.

To rectify that I used some of the green (still left on my palette I knew I would need it) and put in some very fine brush strokes on the tail as shown.

To get more depth and detail to the horse's mane and tail, I used much the same method as used for the tall grass under the tree line. Building it up with fine brush strokes and a couple of washes. Although this time I didn't put down a wash last as I wanted more detail and that would have dulled it down. Now I think you can see that the tail looks better than before.

There were more spots added!!!!!.

I think he is not far off finished now. I know he still needs yet more spots. I shall probably leave it for 24 hours before I come back to it. Normally something jumps out at me!!!

I took a better picture of him, in daylight, and some close ups. Detail of the horse's eye and cheek area.
